Tennis elbow effects tennis players and golfers too. Watch this excellent youtube video by Dr Terry Zachary who explains what is tennis elbow. At Well in Health I treat this condition with the Alpha Stim which works very well
Dr Mercola’s excellent article on what to eat or not eat after exercise is crucial information for anyone undertaking exercise. This is no ‘fad’ information but scientifically proven and I would advise all of us athletes of whatever type to pay attention, so as to prolong our health in order to continue doing what we love. When I combine this advice with use of the alpha-stim to repair damage caused by over exercise, I get excellent results in my clinic.

Consuming protein immediately prior to sleep, after strength training late at night, effectively stimulates muscle protein synthesis and improves whole-body protein balance during overnight recovery.
Your post-workout meal can support or inhibit the health benefits of exercise. Previous research has shown that eating fewer carbohydrates after exercise more effectively enhances your insulin sensitivity, compared to calorie restriction
Combine a quality protein with a veggie-type carb in every meal. Whey protein is considered the gold standard of protein and is particularly beneficial as a “fitness food.” It assimilates quickly, getting to your muscles within 10-15 minutes of consumption. Whey protein is also extremely high in leucine, which is a rate limiting nutrient for muscle growth and recovery
To maximize the benefits of exercise, avoid all forms of sugar, particularly fructose, before, during or after exercise. This includes energy drinks, sports drinks, most energy bars and even “healthy” drinks like vitamin water
Consuming fructose will increase production of the somatostatin, which then inhibits the production of human growth hormone (HGH, also known as “the fitness hormone”) Continue reading →
This article is so good I had to share it with you all. At last some really valuable advice about eating that I whole heartedly endorse and promote in my Clinic, Well in Health.
Please take the time to read it all, it is well worth it.

Poor dietary and lifestyle choices are at the root of our skyrocketing obesity rates. Knowing which lifestyle strategies give you the greatest return can help make weight management into a “non-issue”
Avoiding sugar/fructose and refined grains, and increasing vegetables and healthy fats are four of the “Master Keys” to successful, long-term weight management and optimal health
Knowing which type of exercise is the most efficient is essential if you want to reach your fitness and weight goals with the least amount of struggle
For optimal health and weight management, keep your total fructose intake below 25 grams of fructose per day if you’re in good health, and below 15 grams/day if you’re overweight or have any chronic health conditions.

In today’s world it’s more difficult than ever to keep your weight under control, as evidenced by the fact that over 2/3 of all American adults are now overweight or obesei, as are one in three children.
Part of the blame rests with the processed food corporations that spend billions of dollars marketing unhealthy foodsii as “healthy choices.”
So what do “naturally thin” people know that the rest don’t?
David Zinczenco, editor in chief of Men’s Health magazine, and Matt Goulding address this question in a recent article featured on Yahoo Healthiii, stating that most thin people tend to live by a series of “laws” that keep them from gaining excess weight.
These seven rules are simple enough that most can follow them:
Avoid “Dieting”: By dieting, you’re setting yourself up to gain more weight than ever.
Avoid “Fat-Free”: Fat doesn’t make you fat; you need fat in your diet to help you process certain nutrients.
Sit Down to Eat: Eating more slowly and savoring your meal boosts levels of two hormones that make you feel fuller.
Plan Your Meals and Snacks: Planning your responses to hunger helps you shed pounds faster.
Eat Protein: Those who eat moderately high levels of protein (including organic animal protein) are twice as likely to lose weight and keep it off as those who don’t eat much protein.
Move Around: “Fit people stay fit by having fun.”
Watch Less TV: Nearly 30 percent of people who watch more than four hours of TV a day have a BMI of 30 or higher. Continue reading →
I just have to comment on an article in the New Scientist magazine – 04 February 2012 edition (issue 8520) which has a Front Page Headline entitled:
IN THE ZONE The fast track to unlocking your mind’s potential.
The article entitled “Zap your brain into the zone: Fast track to pure focus” is written by Sally Adee who is a technology feature editor at the New Scientist
The article asks if there is an easy way to prime the brain for proficiency in any skill?
‘Yes’ is the answer!
There is a way to quickly achieve this state, described as in the FLOW, or to use another term BEING in the ZONE.
So how can we achieve this mental state of effortless concentration?
Well science suggest it’s down to increasing the Alpha waves in our brains.
What are Alpha Waves? The brain generates energy and pulses and vibrates like everything in this Universe. The brain pulse is measured in cycles per second or Hertz. The machine used to make this measurement is called an ElectroEncephaloGraph (EEG).
There are 4 major types of brainwaves:
Beta, Alpha, Theta & Delta
Alpha Brainwaves provide the optimum learning state for the brain.
When the Alpha Waves are more active in the brain they initiate an alert, calm & relaxed state of mind and this is the ideal state for learning.
Currently there is an excellent device on the market called the ALPHA-STIM SCS (stress control system) developed by Dr. Daniel L. Kirsch, a Neuro-biologist. This device in studies has been shown to increase the ALPHA WAVE activity of the brain and is used to reduce mental stress, anxiety and depression and promote natural relaxation and sleep. People who suffer from chronic pain must watch this fantastic video.Acupuncture clinics are often filled with patients with chronic painful conditions. Often the patient will ask why they are experiencing pain, even when their doctor may have been unable to detect any physical signs or symptoms.
I believe this video below helps explain why treating chronic pain with acupuncture often provides effective pain relief even when it has been resistant to treatment with medication.
This video explains that 100% of pain is felt by the brain, and that management of long term chronic pain needs a structured plan that includes retraining the brain, and finding ways to desensitise the nervous system, through psychological, nutritional and physical activity.
As an acupuncturist I often recommend the Alpha Stim 100, to treat patients with chronic pain as it quickly and effectively repairs tissue as well as helping to calm the brain and naturally reduces anxiety. I find it a useful addition to the acupuncture treatment .
Watch this great explanation on chronic pain and please as always post your comments.

Very! As an acupuncturist, low back pain is a very common problem that patients present with to my practice. This condition affects almost 75% of patients and occurs frequently in people playing sports such as football, golf, rowing and tennis. Generally I use a combination of acupuncture, Microcurrent therapy (Alpha-Stim 100) and massage to treat this all too common condition.
The lumbar area (lower back) is the most vulnerable part of the back because it has the most motion, works the hardest to support your weight, and enables you to bend, twist and lift.
Between each bony vertebral body, sits a disc that acts as a shock absorber, and aids your flexibility when you move and this can be vulnerable to strains and sprains.
The disc consists of a jelly-like fluid filled centre or nucleus surrounded by a stiff ligament outer ring, called the annulus.
This system of discs enables you to perform heavy lifting or twisting tasks by moving fluid around the disc creating a flexible hydraulic cushion. However, this hydraulic cushion diminishes with time and can lead to injury and low back pain.
HOW IS THE LOWER BACK INJURED?
Injuries to the lower back are of the result of poor conditioning and lack of warm-up routines, or repetitive loading patterns and excessive sudden loads such as rapid twisting actions. Proper body mechanics and flexibility are essential for all activities to prevent injury, it is important to have a proper warm-up technique for your sporting activity. Watch this video of Stuart Mason the Golf Professional at Welwyn Garden City Golf Club on the correct golf stance to prevent back injuries.

How to start the year with positive success and achieve your goals.
Many people will have made an intention or new year’s resolution to do something differently or new, and may have already found they have run out of energy to achieve their goals for the year.
Why is this ? Where did all that inspirational energy go?
New intentions to do something can often fail if they are not supported by regular actions that help us overcome old habits. If you would like to be successful, I WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING THIS VIDEO LINK. The content of the video demonstrates how we can, with a little regular mind training achieve the GOALS we aim towards.
The video of the mindmaster tv demonstrates and provides evidence of how the process of mind training is well-tested and can help those who wants to improve their situation whatever that may be. Deepak Chopra has endorsed this and it is a really neat way to achieve what you want whilst working on your computer and so takes no extra time.
Improving Sports Performance, Pain management, Weight management, Improving Life Goals of wealth, happiness, skills, personal perception whatever it may be can be helped with this ingenious system.
As a holistic health care practitioner who uses the Alpha -Stim SCS to reduce stress and anxiety, we know that our Mind/Body Energy is dependent on where we focus the energy of our new intentions. We know that we need to sustain our intentions, by acquiring new ways of learning and implementing the energy of our intention to achieve our GOALS.
Hope you find this of use I will certainly recommend this to friends family and patients
This is one of those youtube videos that all you sports fans must watch. Truly Awesome, but remember sports injuries can be tough to deal with, so view my solutions for recovery, which include the Alpha-Stim for great pain relief!
Attention everyone who plays golf, exercises or take part in sport. Coconut water is the best isotonic drink you could take and the only one I recommend at my Well in Health Clinic. Not only that, but it has been shown that it helps your heart and helps lower blood pressure. Dehydration is one of the most common conditions I see, and for all treatment, including using the Alpha-Stim for pain relief, the body needs to be properly hydrated. Read Dr Mercola’s excellent in depth report on it.

Water from young, immature coconuts offers a long and growing list of health benefits, distinct from the benefits of its counterpart, coconut oil
Coconut water is a powerhouse of natural electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, enzymes, antioxidants and phytonutrients, and is low in sugar, but pleasantly sweet
It’s great for post-exercise rehydration, but also has anti-inflammatory properties, protects your heart and urinary tract, is a digestive tonic, improves your skin and eyes, supports good immune function, and can even help balance your blood glucose and insulin levels
Coconut water is the richest dietary source of cytokinins, plant hormones that have anti-cancer, anti-aging, and anti-thrombolytic benefits in humans
Because coconut water is isotonic and sterile (upon coming out of the coconut), it is very similar to blood plasma and has been used intravenously in emergency situations for more than 60 years
